Vice President, Programs and Alliance Management

Overview

Q-State Biosciences is seeking a highly motivated Vice President, Programs and Alliance Management. Reporting to the CEO, the VP, Programs and Alliance Management will provide knowledge-based leadership to Q-State’s partnered programs.  He/she ensures Q-State and its partners agree on goals, rules of engagement, committee structures and business processes to ensure that contractual obligations of the partnership are met in a complete and timely manner.  He/she works to maximize the effectiveness of each partnership.  He/she also plays a key role on the program team to support the development strategy and drive the operational advancement of the program.

He/she is able to work effectively across internal functions and with senior/executive management.  He/she has a proven ability to develop teams, build strong relationships with complex organizations, and proactively identify/respond to issues and opportunities that impact Q-State and its partners. The ability to develop and manage successful collaborations with external and internal stakeholders is a key driver of success.

Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Develop tools and mechanisms for monitoring project progress, provide guidance on resolving program challenges
  • Create and manage the execution of program development plans and timelines, ensuring stakeholder alignment
  • Develop program costs and integrate the program into the corporate and budget forecasts in partnership with Finance
  • Partner with Program Team Leaders to integrate, document and communicate program plans
  • Prepare regular updates for senior leadership, executive management, and the Board of Directors

Alliance Management

  • Co-Lead, with the partner’s alliance management function, all joint committee meetings
  • Take responsibility for team interactions and governance meetings
  • Monitor the health and effectiveness of the partnership, identifying areas of strength and improvement
  • Proactively identify issues, potential conflict, and risk with partners and the program. Work with the team to drive forward strategies/plans to resolve
  • Work with functional leaders to manage revenue and expenses in line with project plan and contribute to an effective resource planning process
  • Monitor and report on key deliverables and timelines

 Build Internal and External Relationships

  • Build trust with the partner through an open and honest working relationship with all levels of the partner organization
  • Partner closely with key internal and external stakeholders to monitor key project deliverables
  • Work with the partner on key issues and use diplomacy to bring conflicts to an amicable resolution
  • Ensure relationships are managed in alignment with the alliance strategy
  • Develop strong working relationships with Q-State’s team and senior leadership across all functions

Requirements

  • Degree in life sciences; advanced degree or MBA
  • Seven+ years of total industry experience, including at least three years in a directly related role
  • Strong leadership skills, including demonstrated ability to lead a cross-functional team, and gravitas to influence at all levels as well as lead by influence without formal authority
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Able to communicate across functions and bring people together around a common goal
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, including an ability to combine attention to detail with a big picture perspective. Thinks logically, develops, and evaluates options, and identifies pros and cons, including recommendations
  • Experience in navigating complex organizations, developing effective partner relationships, and building strong working alliances with internal partners. Understands the challenging and sometimes conflicting needs within a collaboration. Is able to identify how decisions are made and by whom within partner organizations
  • Self-directed, reliable, and results oriented
