Research Associate, Tissue Cell Culture and Molecular Biology

Overview

Q-State Biosciences is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to support and execute its cutting-edge discovery efforts.  The Research Associate will work closely with Q-State’s scientific and management teams to perform studies with high quality and scientific rigor. This position reports to the Senior Scientist.

Responsibilities

Tissue Culture (TC)

  • Assist in maintenance of cell culture facility and equipment
  • Major responsibilities include: Coating plates, plating and feeding cells, Optopatch vector introduction (lentivirus transduction, lipofection, electroporation, etc.), preparing/QC of Optopatch lentivirus, dorsal root ganglia and hippocampal tissue dissociation, optimization of culture conditions for new cell lines, and stable cell line construction
  • Prepare media, nutrients, buffers, and reagents
  • Assist in generation and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures

Vivarium

  • Paperwork and training up to date
  • Execution of major Vivarium tasks including: Dissection, tissue harvesting, and writing new protocols

Molecular Biology

  • Maxi/Midi preps
  • Molecular cloning
  • qPCR
  • Western blot, Immunohistochemistry

Inventory Management

  • Chemical supplies
  • Consumables
  • TC supplies
  • Cell storage

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field
  • A minimum of one year of hands-on experience in cell culture
  • Experience with mammalian tissue culture, preferably with rodent primary neurons or induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived neurons
  • Experience with molecular cloning, qPCR, western blot, and immunohistochemistry
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
  • Flexibility to work in a startup atmosphere
  • Demonstrated ability to keep accurate and up-to-date work logs
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
